About the teamIn May of 1996, the Grand Junction High School Academic Team brought home its first state championship, having won the 5A division title for three years prior. Since then, they have repeated that championship over twenty times, becoming the most successful team in 34 years. The team permanently houses 4 Governor's cups in the school trophy case.
In 1997, we expanded our repertoire of games to include the televised Matchwits program on PBS, which we have won six times. Grand Junction High School is not only respected within the state of Colorado, but over the past thirteen years, the GJHS Academic Team has become respected as one of the best teams in the country. The team's impressive top 10 finishes in many of the national competitions guarantee that teams around the United States do not wish to be paired with ours in the preliminary rounds. In 2015, our team won first place at Nationals in Orlando, and they intend to strive for that level of excellence every year. The success of the GJHS Academic Team is due in large part to the generosity of the Grand Junction community. Without your support and contributions, the team could not travel or compete nationally, let alone within the state of Colorado. Thank you for your help and financial support. |
